Who’s Left an Imprint on Your Life?

Recently, we’ve been reading Roald Dahl’s memoirs entitled Boy: Tales of Childhood. In it, he brings to life the people who left an imprint upon him, from parents and grandparents, brothers and sisters, to friends like Thwaites and an old hag, as Dahl calls her, like Mrs. Pratchett. The chapters of his book read like a series of personal narratives, depicting the early years of his life and the lessons learned. It occurred to me to wonder who has left a memorable imprint upon you? What is this person like? What have you learned from the experience of knowing him or her?

Write a short composition (three to five paragraphs) about a person who has affected your life. Use good sensory details to discuss him or her, and pick someone you care about, someone who has left an imprint on you, someone living or deceased. Follow this procedure for this assignment:

  1. You may begin by recording your thoughts in MS Word. Once you’ve finished your short composition, have at least one other person in class read it to suggest revisions and to help with MUGS errors.
  2. Save the Word document to your network drive.
  3. Next, copy and paste your composition from Word into Notepad and adjust any spacing problems as necessary. Save your Notepad document to your network drive.
  4. Last, copy and paste your Notepad document into the comments field of this blog and adjust any spacing problems. Proofread one more time and submit.

Your composition should be posted as a comment to this post by Friday, Dec. 22. A first draft should be done by Wednesday.

What follows is a model essay of someone who affected my life in a positive way. I hope you enjoy reading it.

My teammates and I first met Coach F., a young, new assistant football coach, recently married to Wanda, from Pennsylvania, at football practice in late August of 1965. He had just graduated from a university in California, and my father, the Superintendent of Schools for the school district at the time, had just hired him to teach business education and to coach football not more than a couple of days before the start of football practice that August. Leastways, that’s what I recall more than forty years later.

He took to us immediately and we to him, and we caught his enthusiasm and spirit from the get-go. The head coach, Mark O., another coach and teacher, since deceased, who also left a lasting impression, had given Coach F. the backfield to coach. But Coach F. wasn’t satisfied with what he judged as our lack of spirit. One of the first drills we backs did for him was a series of short forty-yard wind sprints. We lined up, got in our three-point stances, and he blew the whistle. Off we raced, but silently. He blew the whistle to stop us and wanted to know what was wrong. “Nothing, coach,” we said, shrugging our shoulders and wondering what he was getting at. He looked at us and said that, where he came from, football players made more noise than that.

We lined up again, he blew his whistle, and off we raced again, this time with what we thought was a loud yell. He blew his whistle right away, stopped us, and with hands on hips, gave us an unmistakable look, a look that said, “That’s the best you can do?” He then told us that he wanted to hear what we were made of, what we were. He wanted a roar, not some weak-kneed yell that could be knocked down and tackled easily. We understood and lined up again. This time when we took off, and all the subsequent times that week, we roared. And roared. Many years later, I’ve realized what he was teaching us: that whatever you do in life, go after it, with energy and effort, with spirit, care about it, and when you’re a part of a team, act like it. If you fail, so what. Get back up and try again. What more valuable lessons can any teacher give? It may have taken me a while to learn them, but thanks, Coach.

My brother Riley Nett a junior at Hilbert High School has left a big impression on my life. He helped me become interested in sports.

I remember it was my first year at St. Mary’s Hilbert; Riley was starting his 4th year. At recess we always played football. Every pass that was ever thrown to me I dropped, Riley was always so embarrassed every day after school he would tell me to get in the backyard. He showed me how to caught a football. After school some times Riley and I would play football against our neighbors Mike Kolbe who is a junior at Hilbert High School now and Greg Kolbe a 7th grader at the Hilbert Middle School. Riley and I would usually win.

Riley made a big impression on my life we always played sports with each other and helped me become more interested in sports and become a better athlete. Today we still play basketball with each other.

The Person Who Affected My Life The Most

The person who affected my life the most was one of my counselors at Lake Ellen Bible Camp. His name was Vincent. We called him Vin for short and because he sort of looked like Vin Diesel. He wasn’t married. He wasn’t all that much older than us. He was in his upper twenties, lower thirties. He hadn’t gone to collage but he had played football and basketball in high school. I don’t know where he had gone.

Anyway, he was this really cool guy who could make you laugh even if you were having the worst day of your life. He was also one of the best Mission Impossible players. He always seemed to be around when you needed help carrying something.

He was the one on lunch duty the most so we would sometimes have food fights. He would be the one who started it though. He would switch tables everyday so that no cabin felt left out. He was the one who scheduled most of the game days so we always had fun. He also played the games with us. We always had the most fun with him.

At camp Friday is Crazy, Mixed-Up Day. Crazy, Mixed-Up Day is when you wear funky clothes like black and green striped socks with hot pink pants rolled up to the knees, a neon orange shirt, and if you are a girl, wear your hair one side in a braid the other side in a piggy tail and no one would look at you weird. Well he wore exactly that, including the hair because his hair was just about as long as mine is now if not longer.

He didn’t care how he looked or if anyone said something about him.
He just went about his business. That is why he affected me the most.

  3. Jamie H Says:

There are several people that have helped me during my life but the person that has helped me during my life is my brother Kyle. He has encouraged me to try new things and helped me understand the things I learn about. Kyle has been good at school and got good grades to help mine.
Kyle is very interested in everything and would help me if I needed it. He is really good at math and I ask him if I have a question. He likes to work on cars and works at a car dealership in Kaukauna. He is getting married on August the 11th in 2007 and he is very excited about it. Later this year he is moving into an apartment in Appleton and I will be the only child left in the family that lives at home.
He has inspired me to study harder and longer. To try my best and ask him for help if I get stuck. Without him I don’t know what I would do if I have no one to ask for help. To have fun with him is the best thing I have for company. I have the best memories with him and having fun is the best.

The Person That Is Important To Me The Most

In my life there were a lot of people who are important to me. There is one person that is very important to me. That person that is important to me is my Mom.
It was hard to choose my Mom because there were a lot of people that are important to me. Those other people that are important to me are like my Dad, Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins are most of the people that are important to me. The person that I chose that made a big impact on my life is my Mom.
I chose my Mom, because if she wasn’t alive or even born. I wouldn’t even exist. That is why my Mom is important to me.

  5. Aaron B. Says:

The person who impacted my life the most

There have been a lot of people that have impacted my life but the one that impacted my life the most is my 38-year-old cousin Jennifer. She has impacted my life because she shows me that even she can run an assisted living and be strong with being diagnosed with stage four cancer.

She is an impact on my life because when we were cleaning out her brother’s RV she had a sharp pain on her side so she went to check it out so see what is was and then she found out that she had cancer. So anybody that can run an assisted living and can fight stage four cancer at the same time can show anybody and me that she is not a quitter.

Now my cousin is doing quite well, but is still fighting cancer but there is good news that the cancer cells is dropping, and yet she is still owner of a assisted living. So that is the person who impacted my life.

  6. Ariel B 8B Says:

There are lots of people that can make an impression on your life but I have one. That is my Aunt Carrie. She is a strong, determined, fun-loving lady. It’s nice to hang out with her; we always have so much fun. She always seems to give me good advice on problems that I may be having in my life. No matter what I do, which may be wrong or right she’s always willing to help me get through it.

When I get older she always tells me she’s going to help me with becoming a model in high school for a part-time job. All of this could be good practice for when I grow up and want to do this for a life- long career. When she tells me this kind of stuff it helps me to look ahead to see what kind of future I have as a young lady. When I grow up I want to get out of Wisconsin and go to New York, California or Paris to pursue my modeling dream and with a lot of hard work I could do it. She always tells me to never give up on things you want in life.

About her and why we always have so much fun together is because she seems to always treat me like an adult, which I love because she’s really the only person who understands and knows what teenage girls go through and how hard life can truly be. I tell her pretty much everything I have to say which is cool because I look at her not only as a good friend but a kind of big sister. We hang out sometimes which is fun because a lot of the time we both like the same thing. Sometimes it’s hard to hang out because she has two kids but she always manages to save time for me in her life.

  7. Sondra H. Says:

I am writing about one of my best friends named Christy Koffarnus. She is the person that has left the biggest imprint on me because she is like a big sister to me and I love her. I have known her all my life. When I was born, she was at the hospital with my mom and dad.

When I was younger she always used to come over and we would hang out all day. Sometimes her parents Tim and Shirley would go out for dinner, and leave Christy at my house for my mom and dad to watch. Then if Tim and Shirley would get home late Christy would fall asleep on the couch, so my parents would let her sleepover, and we would take her home in the morning.

A couple years ago when I couldn’t stay home by myself I would have her come over and we would hang out while my mom was at work. We used to go shopping, play sports outside with the dog, and go to movies that we wanted to see. I always looked forward to having her come over and to have someone to hang out with during the day. Since I don’t have any siblings it can get pretty boring when you are home alone.

I think that Christy is the person who has made the biggest imprint in my life because she is like a sister to me. She is always there when I need someone to talk to, she is always supportive of me, and she treats me like I am her little sister. She has been though a lot of things so I think she could help me with some of the things I am going though. She could also teach me some important things about life.

  8. Melissa M. Says:

Several people have left an imprint on my life but I think that my mom has made the biggest impression. She is very “down to earth” and always there for me.

My mom is a very smart person, never went to college and is a volunteer teacher’s aid. Other than her aiding job she is a stay at home mom, which is hard to believe because she is never, home. There is always someone that has to be taken somewhere, and she’s the one to do that. She is always busy but always takes time to listen to any of our problems, troubles or give us advice or help. I really don’t know how she does it. If someone is sick she is always the one comforting us or making sure we have the right things to drink and eat. She is always honest, whether it’s for the better or worse is the question. My mom is like my hero and I look up to her in almost all I do. I think that she is one of the best moms anyone could want and then some. No matter what she is always there for me and all five of my other brothers and sisters.

She has left the biggest impact on me because I look up to her and wish that one day I could help my kids like she has helped me.

  9. Dalton D Says:

    MY HERO

The person I think that affected us the most is my Dad. Why because, he taught me how to hunt and fish. I would definitely skip school to hunting or fishingwithmydad. Once when my dad my brother and I went fishing in Canada. We went fishing in a small
bay I was catching fish like crazy, my brother on the other hand wasn’t catching
anything. Then I heard a buzzing sounded like a drag going off. When I looked behind
me the 33 in. northern jumped out of the water and into my our net. When my brother
was taking the hook out I casted in the same spot and almost instantly Ihooked a 32½ in. northern when they let the 1st northern go he had to net mine. After we left my brother and I thought of a name for the bay. We named it brothers bay. That is just one of my many stories thatI have about my dad, but he is not onlymy hero because of hunting an fishing he is my hero because of the little things he does.

  10. Levi C. Says:

The Person That Affected My Life The Most

Several different people affected my life in many different ways, but I think that my dad affected my life the most. My dad’s name is Glenn Cummings; he is about 5 foot 9inches, and has always worked hard for what he has.

I am a short person, but my dad was even shorter. His father always told him to work hard for something that you want, and he has always told me the same thing. My dad works at Kohler Company (a company that makes sinks, toilets, and many other things.)

Sometimes I get really mad at my dad for always telling me to do things, but I know that he is just trying to help me and wants me to work hard. Last year I wanted to get a snowmobile for Christmas, but my dad said to just work hard for it if you really want it. So I took my dads advice and I started working on a farm mostly picking stones. Now I have that snowmobile and I am glad that my dad pushed me to work hard for what I want and what I believe in.

  11. Josh s Says:

Lots of people in my life have an effect on me, but one person in particular is my grandma. My grandma’s name is Tetsuko she is Japanese. I think she came to America when she was may when she was about 20-30 years old. When my grandma had my mom they lived I California with my grandpa who died when my mom was 2 years old. Then they moved to the dairy state, Appleton, Wisconsin.

The reason why my grandma has affected me so much is. My grandma is a hard worker. She used to work as a cook at Nakashima of Japan. My grandma lives with us so I get to be with her everyday so I can talk to her any time I want and she will listen. My grandma has taught me a few Japanese and Chinese words like Gohan which means white rice in Chinese.

My Grandma has taught me many things in my life and I’m proud of what she has taught me. She has taught me good manners and to work hard for what you believe in. Their not a day that goes by that my grandma doesn’t teach me anything. Oh and another thing she has taught me are some Kong Fu moves and that is why my Grandma has been a big imprint on my life.

  12. Jeremiah K Says:

Lots of people had a affection on my life but and my dad is one of them. He helped me with a lot of things. He has always helped me and I always counted on him. He gives me advice when I need it.

He grew up in Wrightstown. That’s were most of his relation lives now. He grew up on a farm. He may yell at me a lot but sometimes I deserve it. He has 7 brothers and 3 sisters.

He is always there for me. He taught me how to shoot a gun and go hunting. He helped me with homework when I need help. He takes me a lot of places. My dad comes to all my games that I play in. He never tries to miss them. Thats one person that left a imprint on life.

  13. Rebekah B. Says:

Several people have left an imprint in my life but I have to say that my sister Leeann has left one of the biggest. Leeann has always been there for me. I can always count on her. Some of the times we get into a fight but most of the time we give each other advice.

I can remember when we were younger we would always go to my grandmas. We would go down to the basement and pretend that we were restaurant owners. We would go up stairs and take my grandparents orders and then go back down to prepare the food. We always had a blast.

My sister and I have always been close. We can tell each other anything. Most of the time she helps me with my homework and gets me anything if I need it because of my foot. Leeann is one of the nicest people that I know. She is always so thoughtful and caring. If I ever have a problem I feel that I could go to her. Even when we fight we always get over it by just talking about something other than just what we were fighting about.

My sister is always there when I need her. Even when she was in Platteville visiting my older sister Heather in the summer, she always found time to call me and see what I was doing, or how I was feeling. My sister Leeann is one of the nicest people that I know. I would never want to change the kind of person that Leeann is.

  14. Trisha S Says:

There are many people who have affected my life. One person who really has affected my life would be my sister, Kayla. She was just 5 years old and the one thing she wanted most was a baby sister. On February 9th, 2 days before her birthday I came along. From that day on, she knew we would have many memories from there.

Before I was born, Kayla wished on a troll for a baby sister. Even though we were 5 years apart we felt much closer than that. I was a baby and I pretty much looked up to her. I wanted to do everything like her. When I was a toddler, our parents got divorced and I think that is what makes us so close to this day. Our parents knew it was going to be hard on a three and an eight year old but they knew what was best. My dad then moved to Appleton. Kayla and I spent every other weekend at my dad’s house.

As we grew older, Kayla taught me to read, tie my shoe, and other fun things. We went to Trinity Lutheran School together until Kayla graduated in 8th grade. The bus rides just weren’t the same without her anymore. She then went to Hilbert High School.

Kayla and I had many fights but we got through them. We talk about everything without worrying if someone will tell. There are things we both did wrong and we just learn from each other. She is the one who taught me what life is like being a girl. The friends you will have for forever and the friends who will leave you. She talked to me about backstabbing, girl fights, and boyfriends.

Kayla is one person I really look up to. If it wasn’t for her I think I would be pretty behind in life. I am proud to say she is my sister. She is defiantly a fun girl and she is someone who makes my life easier.

  15. Sarah C. Says:

Many people have made imprints in my life. But I have one who really made a big one
Her name is Arlene Gillume. She was my Grandmother.
My grandmother lived through the Great depression and many other great things. She use to always tell stories of her family back in the day and what things were like for her.
One thing I found very interesting was she never swore. My mom told
me in all her life she never heard her swear.

She has left an imprint because she was such a strong woman.
She went through a lot. She was 91 years old and was always a fighter.
She broke many bones and had so many surgeries and still was always out shopping and traveling to many places. At the age of
89 she went to England with my aunt. I know she had a blast because she never stopped talking about it. She was up for anything if she put her mind to it she could do it.

My grandmother was always asking me to sing and play piano. The last few times I had with her were in the Nursing home and she was going home pretty soon. I sang and played piano she kept telling me how beautiful I sounded. She wanted to see all of my performances and go to everything I did. She was always supporting my brother and I in what we did.

The main Reason I chose her is because she was always a fighter and well mannered. I will try to be like her and will Always
remember her. I thank her for being here that long.

  16. Anna Z Says:

Several people had affected my life but the one that has outshined everyone is my Grandma Helen. I had known her my whole life. She was a Great grandma and a Great mother to my mom. She had always but thought of others and had always made you feel good about yourself. She had taught me that you should stay strong for the ones you love the most. She had gone through some tough times years ago and even this past year.

She had her heart replaced by a metal heart, then a few years after that her husband died of cancer. After about 10 years after her husband died she remarried to a guy named Paul. Paul was a okay guy at first, but then my grandma had breast cancer and couldn’t do the things that she used to do. So my grandma had to retire and my cousin Mitchell had to help her around the year like cutting grass, pulling the weeds out of her flower garden, and that kind of stuff.

When my grandma was done with chemo and stuff Paul got a very rare disease and was paralyzed and was in the hospital for quite some time. My grandma would do anything for him and would stay at the hospital with him and stayed up all night. But when he got home he was very mad because know he couldn’t do anythig for himself. So whenever my grandma tried to do something for him she would always get scolded at. I remember they got a new couch and my brother, mom, and me helped my grandma move the couch all that Paul did was yell and yell and yell. I just started to cry but only in the inside because I knew that if started to cry Paul would yell at me and my grandma would definitely cry. So since she was doing all of this for him just a few years after having breast cancer my grandma started to get very weak. Every time I went down to visit her was always sore and limping but when I asked her is she felt okay she always says its nothing dear. But as I went down there every week I noticed that it was getting worse and she was just staying here for her family. She was trying so hard not to let go. But I new that in my heart that she wouldn’t last forever. Since my grandma took him to therapy everyday he was getting better. They had to go everyday. But now Paul can walk and get his shoes on by himself. But it takes time to get better. Now since my grandma has passed away I don’t know how well Paul, will do by himself.

That is how My grandma has affected my life.

  17. Britta D. Says:

There are many different people that have imprinted my life. One sticks out more than all the rest, my dad. His name is Eric D. My dad has left an imprint on my life because even though I’m not one he’s always thought of me as his little princess.

One of my memories with my dad is going “man shopping”. (But that’s only because my mom was going to work) “Man shopping” is were you going shopping for about an hour, eat at Red Lobster, and finish it off with a movie. We went to go shop first and bought my grandma a necklace with a cross on it. We ate at Red Lobster and I got Lobster (Yummy). I really don’t remember what movie we saw, but we got home really late.

My dad was and still is not home very often. It used to be that he was selling cars or a customer had a problem. Let me tell you it made us (the family) late more than once. It doesn’t happen like that anymore. He doesn’t sell cars anymore. He was always loyal to his customers. Now he sells furnisher for his best friend Don K. (owner of Best Craft Furnisher). My dad also trucks for the company once in a while. So he’s in and out of the house continuously.

I love to fish and one year my dad took Nate (my older brother) to Canada (to fish). I begged him to go, but he said you’re to young. The two summers after that he took me to Canada. It took one and a half days to get there, but finally we arrived. The scenery was so…so I don’t know I can’t explain it. We got our fishing poles and went out right away. We didn’t even get a nibble for the first couple of hours. So we finally went in (earlier than we should have) took our poles and went casting off the shore/rocks. My first fish I caught in Canada was a four-inch rock bass. How funny is that! The biggest fish I caught was twenty-seven inch northern pike. (One guy that was with us caught one that was 40in!) I was so proud of myself. The best fishing in Canada was when we got to my dads spot. I caught three northern pikes with three casts and only two poles. So altogether I like the little things my daddy does for me.

  18. Amy B. Says:

The person who has affected my life.

It was at my family reunion when I first saw Shawn. I was nervous because I didn’t know him. So for the first day I didn’t talk to him. His daughter is my cousins friend and that’s why they came along. It wasn’t until the next night that he started to talk to me. About animals and things that he wanted to do in his life. Like going diving in the ocean and things like that. He loves animals very much.
He told me once that at one time he had fifteen fish tanks in his house filled with sharks. He has a lot of money because he has a good job. He’s a framer and very good at it. He has a condo in Little Suamico. I can’t really describe what he looks like because I only saw him for one in a half days.

But he has nice sandy looking hair and wonderful looking eyes. He has a wonderful dog,her name is Chevy. Chevy is very talented she can talk and get drinks from the fridge. I hated when I had to leave because I thought I would never see him again, but I hope that he comes to the family reunion next year.

Shawn is really nice and sweet. His ex-wife though is horrible. The only reason why she married him was his money. Then after awhile he divorced him and collected Child Support from him. At least he’s happy and I can’t wait till I see him next year.

  19. Jenni D. Says:

There are a lot of people that have affected my life, but the person that has affected my life in a most positive way is my step dad Keith. He has been with my mom and me since I was one. We have had our ups and our downs just like every family. Before my mom met my step dad it was just she and I. I never knew my real dad. I never really thought about it but, I never knew my real dad, then so I just called Keith dad and to this day I still do.
Then one day after school my mother said that we needed to talk. I was so scared. I thought something might have happened to someone. My mom, dad, and I sat down. Then she told me that Keith wasn’t my real father.
Keith looked very miserable. My heart felt like it was ripping. I was heart broken, because I always thought that he was my father. Then I got up and ran to my room and bawled. Then Keith ran up the steps after me.
He made me a promise and he told me that he would always be her for me real dad, or not. After a year or to he had taken me in to be his daughter. Even though I knew that I wasn’t his real daughter, it had meant a lot that he wanted me to be. He taught me to stand up for myself, and don’t take anything from anyone. He was always very smart and a wise man.
We always talk about what he real world is like, and how I have to prepare myself to be ready. Now that I have met my real dad, I can tell it breaks his heart. But I have talked to him and he understands that, that’s what needed to be done. But in my heart he knows that he is my dad.

  20. Heather B. Says:

Who’s left an Imprint In Your life?

Many people have had an impact in my life. One of the people that has done that is my cousin and friend, Alaina Schaffer. I have known her since the day she was born.

We are always together, and we never fight. The only time we did fight, was when we were four, and she bit me. We do almost everything together, and almost everyday in the summer we see each other. She keeps me out of trouble and makes me laugh. We laugh at the stupidest things, but we don’t care. We can just look at each other and know what the other is thinking. Sometimes we’ll just burst out laughing, then everyone just stares at us like we’re crazy, but we are.

I will always remember her, because we have so many memories together. When we were little we always climbed this huge pine tree at our grandma and grandpa’s house and we would always make the little kids climb in the smaller tree because we didn’t think they were good enough to climb “our” tree. We were young and stupid, so we decided to try to plant grass under this huge pine tree. It barely grew. We would still try to make it grow though. Everyday we were there we threw more seed on hoping for it to grow by the next time we came back, but it wasn’t ever going to happen.

We still hang out with each other at least once a week. We like to go horseback riding just the two of us, and we talk about stuff and laugh. One time I was laughing so hard when we were racing, it was making this funny noise every time the horse moved. I couldn’t stop laughing, and Alaina heard me then she started laughing. It probably doesn’t sound that funny to you, you probably had to be there. We aren’t as dumb as we used to be, but we still goof off a lot. People probably think that we are really weird, but we are.

She has made an imprint in my life because she usually has something positive to say, and hardly ever gets sad. She always looks on the bright side of things, and never gives up. She does her best in everything she does, and she is always there for you if you are sad, or having troubles with anything. She is a great friend and a good person to look up to.

  21. Cara D 8A Says:

    Me and my cousin Emma

The person that has affected my life in a positive way is my cousin Emma and we have known each other since we were born because we are cousins and we get along very well because we are the same age and we know each other so well. But now we don’t really see each other very much any more because my mom and I have moved a lot in the past few years and the only time we ever see each other is in the summer when they come over to my house then when they have had there fun at my house then I go over to there house for a week or just a weekend or since my aunt has 6 girls then we sometimes switch on and off because we can’t possibly fit all of the girls in the car. But Emma and I always get along very well.

On thing that has held us together more than ever, and that was very hard for us to get through was when my mom and my aunt Tracy were fighting a lot. When they got in the biggest fight that I have ever seen them get into then after that my cousin Emma, all of the girls, and I did not see each other in about a year. Then one day after praying that my mom and my aunt Tracy would stop fighting I went to my dads and he said that he had talked to my mom and that she had talked to each other and that they were getting along again. When I herd that I jumped into my dads arms and I started to cry because I was so happy that I could see Emma and all of the girls again. It felt like all of that praying actually paid off because I never thought it would actually happen like that. Then just this summer Emma and I went to six flags and we had a blast. We promised that night that we couldn’t back out of any rides when we go.

And that is the reason why Emma and I are so good with each other. And she also taught me that if you ever have another sister never fight with her so much that you’re children will not be able to see there cousins. Because it tears the family apart when you can’t see them. And I agree with her because we are like sisters and it really tore us apart when we couldn’t see each other.

  22. Austyn L. Says:

Trayc P. was an average high school kid. He didn’t go out for sports, he didn’t have straight A’s, he wasn’t prom king, but he was a more than an average kid in my eyes. An older brother to four, he was a great wise mentor. I was lucky enough to be one of his little brothers.

Before my mom met my dad it was just my mom, my brother Trayc, and I. He was sort of a father figure to me. I never got to know my real dad and so my brother was a big part of my life. He taught me about the real world when I was growing up, and guided me through the real world.

I am now a lot older and I can make my own decisions. I am getting adopted my step dad. I don’t see my brother as much as I use to because he goes to a different school, but he is just as important to me now then he was when I was younger.

  23. Joe S Says:

    Super guy

The person that left the biggest imprint on my life is my dad. He has always supported me on everything I ever done. I look up to him in many ways.

One way I look up to him is in his hard working ethic. He is a single man raises three, rotten kids. He’s building and selling a house and he still finds time for us three. The amazing thing is he never complains how bad his life is. He goes through his day like it’s his last.

Another thing he has helped me with is that he gave me a goal to go and get. He taught me so much about football and other sports. The cool thing is as much as he loves sports. He never ever made me go out. He has coached me and taught me as much as any other coach I ever had.

The third and most important thing to me is that he taught me how to do the impossible. He taught me that all u have to do to achieve something is to try. He taught me that if you show up and do all u can you can come out on top.

In the end, I want to say thank you, and I want to just be like him when I get older because. He is a super guy.

  24. Andrew B. Says:

Who left an imprint on my life?

I would say the person who left the biggest imprint on my life is my grandpa. He always helped me and supported me.

He always treated his grandchildren like we were his sons and daughters. My grandpa was a very kind person he did a lot with his grand children like he took us fishing and played cards with us.

The reason why I look up to my grandpa is because he always helped anyone even if he didn’t know them. He always said the he wants me to graduate go to college and have a good education. He was very cool to be around and he was always making up jokes while his sons and daughters were playing cards. Every time he won some money he always put it in his shirt pocket as a joke so every one could see it.

He was never mean to anyone unless he has a good reason. He was very smart and he didn’t have a lot of enemies. He owned a farm and always enjoyed doing farm work and butchering.

  25. Craig K Says:

    An Impact on my life

One person who made an impact in my life is Joel Johnson. He has made an impact on my life in my life that was very positive. The impact that he made when I was at Acquire The Fire changed my life. He made me become a stronger Christian. The way he changed my life is greater than anybody else except Jesus. He got me to start training so I can be of GOD’S use.

He made a clear point that GOD doesn’t need us we need GOD. He really got the point across. After I went to Acquire The Fire. It has been a large part of my life. The way he influenced my life more than lots of other people really stands out. I would like to thank him for changing my view of parts of my life, and even parts of how I view this world.

When I went to Acquire The Fire it really opened my eyes to how much the media influences tons of peoples lives. I think that it is important that there are people in the world like him. There are really people out there that are bringing people of all ages to GOD these people are changing lives for the better. That is why I think that he is such a large influence in my life.

  26. Stefanie T. Says:

    Best Friends

My best friend Trisha has made a very huge impact on me. I met Trisha in 5th grade in math. I was very quiet and a shy girl. Trisha wasn’t so quiet and shy. When I started talking to her that day I knew I was going to be friends with her.

She came to our school that next year. Once I got to know her in class I started hanging out with her and once I started hanging out with her I was becoming her friend .I was hanging out with her and some other girls sometimes, but then in the summer we got closer. I was becoming more outgoing and speaking my mind. We would hangout and just be crazy and have fun. She is one of the most lively and outgoing person I know. I can be myself in front of her. If I make a mistake she would help me make it right. We can just sit in a room for hours and laugh about nothing.

Trisha has always been here for me and she taught me how to be a good friend and have fun. She also taught me that you can say a lot of things but some of the things that you don’t say mean the most. If you are there when they need you the most that means a lot to that person. I think destiny brought us together. We were meant to be friends. I wouldn’t change the friendship we have in any way. I love her; she’s like a
sister to me. She’s the best friend anyone could have.

  27. Alec S 8A Says:

Who left an impact on my life?

One person who left an impact on my life is my dad. My dad is a neat person. He likes everything to be clean. He always wants the house to be spotless When my dad has spare time he likes to be in the woods, doing something outside or looking for antlers.

My dad has left an impact on me because he always tells me that I should stick to my goals. When my dad goes somewhere I always like to go with him. When my dad is doing something I want to know what he is doing, and how he does it. He always wants us to be outside, not watching T.V. or playing video games.

My dad is important to me because he is always there for me and he will
always help me when I need it. My dad is like my hero because he is cool and always likes to be doing something.

  28. Marcus K Says:

Lots of people come into my life and go out, but the person who has made the greatest impression on me is my big brother Adam. He is now twenty and is in his junior year of college. He attends the University of Oshkosh. He is going into the field of criminal justice. He is engaged and will be married in the May or 2008. I not only chose him because he is my big brother but because he has shown me so much.

He has achieved success even though he has gone through a lot of failure. Through his failure he has shown me how to succeed and reach my goals with very little failure. It’s not only his success, but also his attitude towards life that has given me my positive attitude and my strong will. He has given me confidence to succeed in life by showing me the rights and wrongs of the world today.

In basketball, Adam never really got to play. He sat on the bench cheering his team on even though he wasn’t playing. When I’m playing I’m not only cheering on my team but when I score a basket I also feel like I scored a basket for me but also for him. In him showing and teaching me lessons I’ve became a better person inside and out.

When Adam was in fourth grade another child was getting picked on and stood up for him. Soon After the other children started to pick him. Adam didn’t care because he knew that he did the right thing. He also stood up for what he believed in that was right.

  29. Loretta B. Says:

All kinds of people have left an imprint t on my life but the person who has the most is my best friend Sondra. Although I only met her only about a year ago she has left a huge imprint in my life because, she has been one of the people I can trust and confide in.
Sondra has been my best friend for only a year but it feels like I have known her my whole life we talk about every thing from boys to sports. The funny thing is we have the same favorite T.V. shows. Which we learned in the first month she was here. We were in the seventh grade and, we had this pink book, which we wrote in. We wrote notes back and forth every day. All the boys wanted to see what was in it so we had to hide it. But one day they got it. We started to panic because we didn’t want them to read it.
But luckily by lunchtime Ariel L. had gotten it out of a boys locker before he even noticed it was gone. Some of the boys got mad though. But during that whole time that I was panicking Sondra managed to keep her head on. From that day on we have been friends. That is why she has left the biggest imprint on my life. So no matter what happens we always manage to stay friends. And hopefully we always will.

  30. Amber C. Says:

The Person who affected my life the most is my Mom her name is Gale. Her last name is Castor like mine but her maiden name is Hauser. The reason why she affected my life the most is because she puts her family before everything.

My Mom grew up in Oklahoma, She moved around six or seven times through her childhood but the place she remembers most is Hutchinson. The reason why she moved around a lot is because her parents are divorced so it was hard for them to find a steady job that paid well. So every time we go to Kansas we go to Hutchinson to see my Grandma she will show us the pool that she went and swam in every day during the summer, and where she lived when she was little.

She had a rough childhood and tries to make ours better than she had. I have only moved twice, one I do not remember one so I do not count that one. The second was for a good reason so my dad would have a job that made him happy, because the job that he had was boring and he did not like it. That’s how we got to Wisconsin.

  31. Molly S. Says:

Through the years of my life several people have affected me. One person that really affected my life is my brother, Pete. When Pete found out that there was going to be another girl in the family he was kind of bummed out because him and my dad are the only guys in my family. Afterwards when he found out my mom and dad were adopting me he was kind of happy. He was about 10 when I came into the family, so he really didn’t know how to take care of me because he was the youngest child.

After mom taught him a lot of stuff about taking care of babies and other stuff like that, he was pretty happy that he could help take care of me. He changed my diaper, fed me, held me, and sometimes even bathed me when my mom told him to for her when she was busy cleaning, and Amy and Steff weren’t home to watch me.

Through the years of growing up he was there for me half the time I needed him. He let me hang out with him and his friends, he let me go swimming with him and his friends, and he let me go out on homecoming when I was like 8 with him and his friends, but he only let me do that once. He also helps me with my homework when I need help and he helps me with sports, when he wants to. You can say he pretty much helps me with everything.

If it wasn’t for Pete I wouldn’t be so grown up and so good in math. His best subject was math and now my best subject is math. I wouldn’t be so caught up in life if he wouldn’t have helped me with so much stuff, and let me hang out with him and his friends so much. That is why my brother, Pete has affected my life.

  32. Stefanie G. Says:

The person that impacted my life the most is Ariel lee. There are a lot of people that have impacted my life but the one who did the most is my best friend Ariel Lee. She is in the same class as me; her sister and mine are in the same class too. We live about two houses away she is always over all the time. She’s always there for me when I need her to be.

She helps me with my problems whenever I need her to. She is very outgoing and doesn’t care what people say about her. She says just to ignore people. I remember one time I needed her really bad but her mom wouldn’t take her so she just started walking. Thankfully she made it all right. She always makes me laugh and makes me happy. I can never stay mad at her for more than two minutes.

I hope that she never goes away because that would suck a lot. She’s really fun and always they’re no matter what. Whatever happens she’s there for me.

  33. Zach P Says:

    My Imprinted Life

The person that affected my life the most is my mom. My mom’s name is Becky Propson, she is 42 years of age. My mom has left an imprint on my life.

The imprint that my mom had left on my life is when I was about 8 I didn’t want to go shopping. The thing we did is we went shopping for clothes for my mom and sister. I didn’t even get anything. When we got to the mall she asks my sister what store she wants to go to first. She didn’t care what store we went to first. When we got to whatever store it was we were in there for at least an hour. She said we would be there for a little more than 2 hours. It had seemed like we were there for at least 3 hours. Then I kept saying lets go, and finally she listened and went out to eat.

Then we went out to eat at Burger King. Then when we were done eating we went to go to a different store for me because my mom said I was good today. We went to Scheels and I got something that I really wanted it was a remote control car. When I got the thing I wanted we had gone home and I said, “thank god were home.” I didn’t like shopping for all them girl things.

  34. Kira K. Says:

There are a lot of people who have had an affect on my life but one who has had the most affect is probably my Mom. She has helped and has taught me with many things in life.

She has helped me and coached me for basketball. Even though she is not my coach now, she still helps me to become a better player. She was always at every game cheering for me and supports me in whatever I do. She has always told me to try and do my best in whatever I do. She has also taught me to never give up.

Whenever I had a problem or needed helped with something she was always there for me. She is a great Mom! When I grow up I want to be someone who is something like her.

  35. Leah V Says:

Many people have left an imprint on my life or inspired me in some way but the person who has had a great impact on my life is my dad. My dad’s name is Jim Valentine he owns his own business in Freedom Wisconsin.

My dad has inspired me to do things that I didn’t think I would ever want to do. He tells me to try new things and says in the future I will be happy that I have tried or accomplished something new.

My dad and I can do almost anything together. I never get bored when I’m with me dad he always makes me smile even if he had just made me mad Sometimes when we are bored we just leave the house and drive around until be find something to do. My dad has inspired me in so many ways. Telling me about his accomplishments and how we have spent his life has really inspired me to do what I want to do.

  36. Kyle T Says:

There are a number of people who have hade some kind of an imprint on my life, but there is one person who has left an important imprint. My mother. I am writing this to say how much of an impression on
    my life so far.

It is difficult to pick my mother to write about.
There are so many people that I wanted to
mention. But my mother is the most important. So
I feel I must write about her instead of the
    other people.

My mother has raised me from when I was little.
She does work hard to provide for my sister and
me. I thank her for all she has done and I plane
to help her wherever I can. I will always be
grateful to my mother and will always support
    her.

  37. Ryan S. Says:

The person who has left an imprint on my life is my grandpa. He was a
professional football player for the Green Bay Packers (back when they were actually
good). He was also a professional wrestler. He never talked much even at holidays.

My grandfather was a professional football player for the Green Bay Packers in
1942 and 1944. We used to toss a football around until he died. We used to have some of the adults play a game with us. I was never much good, but I got better.

My grandpa was a professional wrestler after he was in the Packers. He would
sometimes show me some moves even though he was old and couldn’t remember most of them. He had to retire from being a professional wrestler due to an injury.

He never talked to anyone very much. He sometimes didn’t answer when asked
questions. Whenever everyone else was talking he always went and did something else. That may be why I never talk very much either.

My grandfather has left an imprint on my life. He left an imprint by being a
professional football player. By being a professional wrestler. He left an imprint
because he never talked very much.

  38. Taylor K. Says:

Many people have left imprints on my life but I think the biggest would be my big brother Ross. There are other people that have left imprints but I think this would have to be the best. Because the other day when I was looking at pictures from when I was little and seen all these pictures of my brother holding me and playing with me and being so gentle made me really know for sure this is the person I want to write about. Also now that he is gone to college, I really miss having him around.

I remember this one time when I was like 6 years old, and Ross and I went mud running in our woods. It was so much fun. When we got back we were covered in mud from head to toe. We tried to hit every single puddle possible. I also remember having these huge chunks of mud in my hair, it was so funny. It took me half a bottle of shampoo to get all the mud out of my hair.

I really learn a lot of things from Ross. I can also learn from the mistakes he makes. He always does very well in school and now is in his 3rd year of college and is going to be an accountant. He is never late for class and also tries his hardest. So that makes me want to do the best I can in school and everything so that I can be like him when I get older. So that’s why I wrote about my brother Ross. He is awesome!

  39. Karley S Says:

The person who has made an imprint on my life is my mom. My mom‘s name is Diana. She was always there for me like when I was sick or lonely. My mom helped me with sports. We used to always practice basketball and run around the yard a couple times. She would always take me shopping, always buying me stuff. I trust my mom even though she always makes me do work all the time.

My mom always thought of our vacations and where we would go. When she decided to go somewhere like Mount Olympus water and theme park we always had so much fun when we went there. My mom always brings me places where she goes like craft shows she buys me things there too, like jewelry.

My mom is open minded she lets me go places like parties and dances. She is very helpful and helps me with homework a lot if I get stuck on a problem. She always knows when I have a problem and that’s why she always helps me. She never makes me do anything embarrassing in front of anyone. My mom protects me from getting in trouble.

My mom reminds me of me she went out for track like I did. But she did not go out for basketball. I guess she is like me quiet all the time but sometimes I can get annoying. Every time somebody sees my mom and I they always say that we look alike. We have so much in common. My mom sure is the person who made an imprint on my life.

  40. Taylor K. Says:

I really liked Melissa M’s story. It is very true her mom is very down to earth and can teach you a lot. Good Job Melissa!

  41. Alaina S. Says:

I have had many people that affected my life in good ways and bad like my mom, my neighborhood friends and all my other friends, but I think that Heather Brickham has affected my life the most in a good way.
Heather and I never got in any fights accept once when we were really little and I bit her. I have known Heather since I was born and I saw her at least every week even when I was less then a year old.
Heather and I are cousins so we would go to my grandma and grandpa’s house and play with all our cousins. We would climb this big pine tree and see how high we could climb. We spent hours in that tree cleaning it out and trying to plant grass on the bottom. We were very dumb and funny back then. After we were done climbing in the tree all the cousins and parents would eat a big meal. Every one liked it and I was always the last one eating. Heather would come and ask me if I was done eating yet so we could go play in the tree again. Till today we still go to my grandpa’s, but we don’t climb the tree anymore, we usually play ping-pong or air hokey.

Heather lives way out in the country like 3 miles from my house. In the summer I walk all the way to her house. It was very tiring walking in the hot sun, but it was still worth it. Heather and I would play outside and ride the three-wheeler in the woods trying to make new paths. We would run in to little trees trying to knock them out of the path. One time when we were trying to make a new path, we almost ran in to a big tree, it was very scary.

Presently we usually still play outside. Heather has a horse named Blacky and I have a horse named Jazzy, but heather and I call her Jizzy. I keep Jazzy at Heathers barn so heather and I can go riding together. Last month heather and I were riding and heathers horse started running through the field and Heather fell off. It wasn’t good. Blacky ran to the barn bucking because his saddle went all the way up side down. Jazzy ran down the driveway and I jumped off and grabbed Blacky and put him in his stall. I was so scared because Heather was still lying on the ground. After she got up she could barely walk, her back hurt very bad.

Today Heather and I play basketball and volleyball together. Heather and I are in the same classes for school so we can see each other a lot. I will never forget her and that’s why I wrote about heather.

  42. Austyn L. Says:

Im posting on Kyle T’s message . I like the use of words in this passage as well a his overall message. It was very good and I could understand it because my mom is the same way.

  43. Heather B. Says:

I am commenting on Marcus K.’s comment about his older brother Adam. I think that he used really good wording, and made readers understand how important he was to him.

  44. Taylor K. Says:

Jamie i really liked your little story because it is very true. I’m glad your brother insprires you to do new things and try harder. I cant wait until the wedding!!

  45. Joe S Says:

I would like to comment on levi cummings comment. i think it is very cool that why your dad always pushes you more than everyone else in your family.

  46. hattie T. Says:

There are a lot of people that put a good impression on me but the one that I’m going to write about that put the greatest impression on me is my sister Hannah. She is 17, a senior in high school and will be attending the university of Madison.

Some reasons as to why I choose my sister are: She shows me who I really am and not to be anyone else. I can always count on her. We hardly ever get in fights. She works really hard, she is smart and does very well in school, and she is funny and very nice. She helps me out when I need it and she encourages me to do my best. My sister taught me how to tie my shoes and to help me read and other fun things.

For these reasons, she has been a good role model for as well as putting good imprint on me for me and I try to do my best at whatever I’m doing to get through it.

  47. Heather B. Says:

I am commenting on Joe’s comment. I liked how he told stories to keep the readers attention, and told us about his dad.

  48. Craig K. Says:

I think that Kyle’s essay is a very good essay because he really explained why he chose his mom for the person that he wrote about. He said that it was hard to choose her over some other people, but he had to because she made an imprint on his life. I think that doing something like that is very hard to do.

  49. Joe S Says:

Stef I think your was very good. I also think trisha is a pretty good person. I hope you to have alot more awesome memories together.

  50. Stefanie T. Says:

I’m comenting on Jenni’s story. It’s a good story. It’s touching and true. The things we go through are rough but we have to get through it. Even the people who are not bloodly related to us have a huge impact on us.

  51. Ryan S. Says:

I think Austyn’s story is interesting. It is not someone you would usually pick and it says something about his character.

  52. Austyn L. Says:

I’m posting on David L’s passage. It was a very interesting post because of what he wrote. I like that he wrote about the person who was most important to him instead of who imprinted the most on him. I can also relate to his.

  53. Connor N. Says:

Very good story Marcus it was very descriptive. It grabbed my attention very easily and was easy to follow along.

  54. Ryan S. Says:

I think that Kyle’s is a good story. It is very hard to choose, but I think he chose the best person to right about.

I love your essay Heather!lol We had so many good memories except that one time when i bit you but thats ok because its funny talking about it now. Good job your essay was very good and expressive.

  57. Cara D Says:

I would like to comment on Stefanie T because it is very touching and i think it is very cool that you have a friend that cares about you.

  58. Preston S. Says:

My dad has left a big imprint on my life. He has taken to places that I want to go to. Lots of other people have left imprints on my life but he has left the biggest. When I want to play catch or shoot some hoops he will play. I help him with stuff around our house like cleaning our windows, clean out our pellet stove, and change tires or oil on my parent’s vehicles.
My dad is 39 years old and has worked for almost 20 years at the same place. H likes what to build buildings like farms, sheds, and warehouses. He is a construction worker and he loves it. He likes working outside in any weather. He couldn’t sit in an office for a whole day. He has got stitches 2 or 3 times and got a piece of metal in his eye at work already.
One time we went on a four-wheeling on trails in northern Wisconsin and there was a huge water hole and we went through it and got stuck. My dad told me to jump off the four-wheeler to the side of the water hole. He was almost tipping the four-wheeler over trying to get out. But finally he got the four-wheeler out of the water hole but it was all full of water and mud. We were all soaked and full of mud too.

  59. Stefanie T. Says:

I’m comenting on Cara’s story. The story has a nice flow and it’s moving. The people in the past that we don’t see all the time still have a impact on us today.

  60. Nick K Says:

My dad has made an impact in my life. He made an impacted in my life by helping my with things and teaching my things about his job. I like that he teaches me about his job so I can help him with some jobs and get paid for it.

My dad helps my with a lot of things like homework. He helps my because he wants me to do good in school. Then he makes me work with him so I learn more things like hard work. Then when I am learning the things he does at work he does not need to teach me how to do it again.

So that is how my dad has impacted my life by teaching my things that I never knew. I’m really thankful for all the things my dad has taught me. I hope we will keep teaching me about his work. Maybe he will keep helping me with things.

    Inspiration on my life

There are a lot of people that that have inspired my life. My Uncle Larry is one of them. He was adopted with 3 other children, John, Stacy, and Theresa. They had the same mom but different dad.

He inspired my life because he has taught me how to do lots of thing. Like fly-fishing, playing a game called World of Warcraft or WoW, and he let me help modify his jeep for mud running. He helps me with my problems and he treats me like one of his kids.

One thing that really impresses me is that he has to come over the fact that his mother and father did not want him and his brother and sisters. He has found them and he sees them often. That takes a lot of courage to confront the people that didn’t want you. He likes the same books I do. He said if I come over again he would lend me his books.

He said to me if I don’t go to college he would kick my butt then get me a job. I like that because he cares for me to get me a job. I think most uncles wouldn’t do that the for there nephew.

He is my inspirer because of those reasons. Thank you Larry for all the things you did for me.

  115. yue pheng y Says:

When I was about 8 in my old school in Milwaukee Humboldt Park school there was a kid who likes to pick on me all the time in school. He was about my age and 2 inch taller than me. We were out in the hallway to go to the library to check out some book than he push me than I fell to the ground hard. The reason why he push me is because he just want to make fun of me laugh at me and to get me in trouble. The next day later they almost push me down the stair but I don’t want to but they force me but I still won’t do what he said.

Then next year later I thought it would be over but it seems that it had only started. This time he started to start a fight with me in the bathroom and he started to say “it that little short guy from last year that we pick on last year.” I looked scared and did not do anything back to him and his gang. They kick me out of the bathroom and they told me “if you go and tell a teacher you will be beat up very soon.” So I did not tell the teacher for at least a week or two now. The teacher knew that something has been happening to me since the last two week so she told me the next day later.

That day I came home because I was beat up badly by that gang. My mom told me what happen but I had no respond cause I was beat up so badly. I slept early at 6:32 at night. The next day later I woke up. I ate a little snack to get ready. Then I went to the bus line with my brother and cousin. The bus took us to school. We got off the bus and I have to go to my room, but my brother and cousin wasn’t there because we were in separate floors and room. A few minutes later I saw the guy and his gang again. I was shivered with frighten when they walk toward to me. I was scared I couldn’t even move at all. Then the guy started to say, “Hand over your lunch money kid.” I was so scared that time. I just wish I could do something back to him because he keeps on picking on me since last year. I just told him to leave me alone but he keeps bothering. He started pushing me. I don’t even know what I’m supposed to do at all. The bell rings and it’s time to go to class. He went to his class. It’s a good thing that we are separated because I know he’s in my grade but not my room.

Class started at 8:10 the teacher started the lesson about what are you suppose to do when someone has bully you and picks on you all the time. One person said, “Run as fast as you can away from him” But I don’t really say that. I raised up my hand and say,” stand up for your self.” The teacher said that I was correct. A couple minutes later the bell rings again. Time to go take a break. So I went to the bathroom for my break time. There he came in and saw me. I was still scared but I must learn something I learn from class today. I must learn to stand up for my self.

There I was trying to face my fears. I might know what I have to do but I just don’t know if it will work. I walk up to him to, not scared at all and then BOOM!!! I kicked him in the leg and it hurts. He started crying for a little bit. I don’t believe it I never hurt somebody at school before since the last past years, and I finally did. He got up and says, “You’re not easy to get along with kid I’ll just leave you alone.” I said, “Okay.” He left the bathroom. My friends came in to see what happen then I say, “ Beat him up.” They don’t believe me at all. So I’ll tell them, “Go talk to him yourself.” They say, “Okay we will.” And so they did. I was right. Maybe I learn something in class “stand up for yourself.”
